Dr Joanne Smith BVSc - Senior Equine Veterinarian


Joanne graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997. After graduation Joanne worked at the Warwick Veterinary Clinic as an equine veterinarian. This position involved all facets of equine sports medicine and surgery where she was the head Thoroughbred stud veterinarian. Venturing north to Emerald, Joanne worked at the Gray Street Vet Clinic as a senior associate (mixed animal veterinarian) and then returned south to take up a position at the Karana Downs Vet Clinic as an equine stud veterinarian.

In 2002 Dr Smith returned to Emerald starting her own business, the Maraboon Veterinary Surgery. The small animal clinic was sold in October 2011. As head Equine Veterinarian at Weatherford Equine, Dr Smith continues to pursue her passion for equine reproduction particularly through ET and all facets of equine sports medicine and surgery. Recently Dr Smith returned from her second trip to the US spending time with leading equine veterinarians in Weatherford, Texas.

 

Mark Smith - Manager


Mark graduated from Dalby Agricultural College in 1994. In 1995 he worked at the Acton Land and Cattle Company’s operation, ‘Millungera Station’, Julia Creek. During 1996 Mark took a position at Heytesbury Beef’s ‘Moolooloo Station’, WA. Mark was then promoted to head stockman at ‘Flora Valley’ in WA.

After leaving WA, Mark held a position in the Equine section at the Emerald Agricutural College until 2003. After leaving the Ag College, Mark worked for BMA for the next seven years during which time he was also establishing Weatherford Equine. Mark and Joanne breed both Stockhorses and Quarter Horses.

As manager of Weatherford Equine, Mark is responsible for all the day to day activities at the operation.
